Castles
Dumfries and Galloway is a region steeped in history. Drumlanrig Castle, otherwise known as "The Pink Palace" is a unique example of late 17th century Renaissance architecture, and is one of the regions main visitor attractions.

Caerlaverock, one of Scotland's finest castles, with a moat, twin towered gatehouse and imposing battlements is a fine example of a medieval stronghold.

Cycling
With many off-road trails and miles of quiet country roads, cycling is the ideal way to explore the beautiful Scottish countryside.

The 7 stanes mountain biking centre at Mabie is a fantastic place for cycling, regardless of your ability. Many of the trails make the most of the stunning landscapes and take you past the lochs in the forest.

Robert Burns / Ancestry
A passionate, inspiring, forward-thinking pioneer of his generation, Robert Burns is regarded as the national poet of Scotland. The romantic setting of Dumfries helped provide the insight for compiling much of his material.

Tracing your family history is a journey of discovery which leads you to explore the lives and times of your ancestors who lived hundreds of years ago, and perhaps even thousands of miles away.  For every single Scot in their native land, there is thought to be five more living overseas who can claim Scottish ancestry.

Walking
The region encapsulates all that is best about walking holidays in Scotland, with all the landscapes you could want resting side by side. Acres of sky, miles of rugged coastline, sandy beaches, mysterious forests, rolling hills, tranquil lochs and room to breathe.
